Army to be deployed in Hangu

Published March 21, 2003

KOHAT, March 20: The NWFP government has decided to deploy army in Hangu district on Nauroze to be observed on Friday in view of the sectarian tension in the area.

It has been learnt that Hangu district Nazim Pir Haider Shah had requested the administration to hand over the security during the Nauroze celebrations to the armed forces.

In March 2001 at least 65 people were killed and property worth eight million rupees had been destroyed in armed clashes between the rival sects and incidents of arson.

Meanwhile levies have been deployed at the disputed site of the tomb of Mian Sahib in Lera area of the Orakzai Agency after peace talks broke down between the elders belonging to the opposite sects on Monday.
