DERA GHAZI KHAN, March 19: Subscribers have been facing problems in getting their calls through as the mobile phone companies have provided more connections than their system capacity.

Instaphone and Paktel are providing mobile phone service to the dwellers of the area. Several subscribers have made complaints against both the mobile companies about the late connectivity.

Sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) told Dawn that complaints of the late connectivity was due to the issuance of connections in excess to subscribers by the mobile phone companies.

On the condition of anonymity, a PTCL employee told Dawn that with 60 channels the Paktel was entertaining 7,000 connections against its capacity of only 200.

Similarly, he said the Instaphone had only 30 channels while it was entertaining at least 1,200 connections against its capacity of mere 100.

The mobile phone service in Dera Ghazi Khan has still not been digitized, but the companies claim that they are providing the digital service to their customers.

When contacted, the local authorities of mobile phone companies refused to comment on the issue.

Subscribers have urged the Telecommunication Minister Awais Khan Leghari to take action against the companies which are not abiding by the rules and regulations of the PTCL.
