POSTMARK: Divas Of Yore

Published January 8, 2009

In your previous issue on the bygone divas of Pakistani cinema (Dec 18-24, 2008) where Kaleem Ahsan and Rishad Mahmood, among others, paid tribute to some of the most memorable heroines of the Pakistani film industry, there was hardly any mention of the sensational, legendary Kavita.
Tall, elegant, classy and strikingly beautiful, Kavita was a precious asset of the industry during those times, and had many a super hit to her name. Extremely hardworking and professional, her success graph happened to be much higher as compared to others, for she was a natural actor and always won the hearts of audiences whenever she made an appearance or delivered dialogues. She created great onscreen magic with legendary films like Satish Anand's Manila ki bijlian.
Had she stayed in Pakistan for a longer period of time, she would have surpassed every one else on the list. Had the writers not missed this great talented beauty out, the feature would have been complete.

Your issue titled Divas of yore (Dec 18-24) was nicely compiled but left a lot of Kavita fans rather disappointed. Both Rishad Mahmood's piece Golden girls and Beauty and the feast by Kaleem Ahsan did not mention Kavita, one of the finest actresses to have graced the silver screen in Pakistan. Her beauty and authentic, natural acting talent were and still are proof that she was the real golden girl of the Pakistani film industry.
