LAHORE Some protesters attacked a Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) office in Mughalpura on Sunday, burning down and damaging records and property. The skeleton Lesco staff fled before the protesters ransacked the office premises.

Witnesses said dozens of residents of MET-II and Larechs Colony gathered outside Angoori Bagh sub-divisional office in the afternoon and turned violent while protesting unscheduled and prolonged loadshedding. They threw rocks and stones on the rented building housing the office and smashed its doors and windowpanes.

The protesters later entered different rooms, ransacked furniture, brought files and other valuables including cable roles and furniture outside and burnt it in protest.

Mughalpura SHO Qamar Abbas, however, said around two dozen protesters reached the office and set a cable role, a damaged transformer lying outside the office and some furniture items on fire. He claimed that office records remained safe.

He said that Lesco staff informed Rescue-15 at around 330pm on which the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Similarly, some protesters gathered outside a Lesco grid station in Mughalpura and protested against loadshedding.

They were seen hitting the main gate, which was closed in routine, with kicks and fists and shouting slogans against the government and Wapda.
