HYDERABAD, March 15: Youm-i-Aashur, the day marking the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and his relatives and companions at Karbala about 1360 years ago, was observed with due solemnity and reverence throughout Sindh province on Friday.

Various processions were brought out from Hyderabad, Latifabad, Qasimabad, Tando Jam, Hala, Matiari, Tando Allahyar and Tando Mohammad Khan in a peaceful manner and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district.

A number of smaller processions converged at the Kadamgah Maula Ali in the morning from where the central procession was taken out under the aegis of Anjuman-e-Haideri.

Prominent among those, who attended the main mourning procession, included provincial minister Naeem Ishtiaq, MNA Prof Khalid Wahab, MPAs Arshad Shah and Aslam Pervez of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and district Nazim, Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman.

Personnel of law enforcement agencies, including police and rangers, accompanied the mourning processions besides manning the procession routes to maintain law and order.

Various organisations had established camps for providing refreshments and medical aid along the route of the main procession to take care of mourners injured during the self- flagellation.

Participants of the main procession offered Friday prayers at the Karbala Dadan Shah, with Maulana Rehmat Ali Laghari leading the congregation.

Volunteers of various social welfare organizations also marched with the processions to take care of the mourners’ needs.

After Maghrib prayers, Majalis Sham-e-Ghariban were held at the Kadamgah Maula Ali, Karbala Dadan Shah and Mehfil-e-Hussaini with various Ulema highlighting the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions.

Special prayers were offered for the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan and the glory of Islam.

MIRPURKHAS: Ashura was observed with traditional reverence here on Friday.

Strict security measures were taken to control any untoward incident.

Different organizations had set up camps to provide medical facilities to mourners who were injured during Matam.

DADU: Many Zul-Jinnah processions were taken out in the district from different places on Friday.

The main procession was taken out from the central Imambargah to the New Chowk.

Jamait Ulema-i-Islam activist Abdul Ghani Brohi objected to a gathering in Gulab Lashari village where Niaz of Ashur day was being distributed by Hussain Bakhsh Korkani.

They exchanged hot words which led to skirmishes between the members of the two sects.
