First woman governor?

Published March 27, 2010

THE news item (March 23) about the swearing in of Dr Shama Khalid carried incorrect information regarding the first-ever woman governor in Pakistan's history.

Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan was the first woman governor. She was appointed governor of Sindh in February 1973 and remained so until February 1976.

Dr Shama Khalid is the second woman governor in the history of Pakistan.
