ISLAMABAD, March 11: The Officers Association of the United Bank Limited (UBL) has expressed its dismay at the cancellation of the medical leaves of regular employees by the bank management.

In a statement on Tuesday, Khawaja Mohammad Saleem, senior vice-president of the UBL Officers Association, accused the bank administration of adopting, what he called, discriminatory attitude, towards the regular employees.

All earned leaves of the employees have been cancelled, whereas the leaves of the consultants are regularly encashed on lucrative terms, he said.

Mr Saleem said Staff House Building loans had been debited in complete contravention to the sanctioned advice and, that too, at a very high rate of interest, just to boost profit of the bank.

He alleged that to create room for the people of their choice, a number of staff members had been put in surplus pool. The move also aims at gradually eliminating the permanent cadre of the bank, he claimed.

A very cruel system, under the title of “Bell Curve”, has been introduced, whereby it has been made mandatory to place a certain percentage of the employees in “C & D” categories at the time of annual assessment, he said.

He said the pension benefit of the employees had been withdrawn arbitrarily, and they were forced to change their option in this regard.
