Transporters block road in Bara

LANDI KOTAL, March 11: Tribal transporters blocked Peshawar- Bara road for traffic on Monday in protest against, what they termed, the unlawful detention of a colleague who was arrested by the political administration for collective responsibility in a kidnapping case three days back.

The protest was observed on the call of the Khyber Transporters Union in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency.

The transporters demanded immediate and unconditional release of driver Bazaar Gul, who belongs to Akakhel sub-tribe of Afridis of Khyber Agency. Bazaar Gul was held in connection with a kidnapping case blamed on the Akakhel sub-tribe people, despite the fact that he could establish his innocence, the drivers said. The transporters also demanded payment of dues by the political authorities for the public vehicles hired during a recent operation against outlaws in the agency.
