Published March 12, 2003

KARACHI, March 11: Several parts of the city either went without water or received scant supply on Tuesday.

The worst affected localities include Ramswami, Ranchorre Lines, Kharadar, Mithadar, Bhimpura, Haquani Chowk, Pakistan Chowk, Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 10, North Karachi’s Sector 5-D, Adamjee Nagar, Jinnah Cooperative Housing Society, Bangalore Town and Al-Hamra Society.

The residents of the affected localities complained that although the water shortage problem often occurred in the localities, the concerned officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department had not yet taken measures to ensure smooth and uninterrupted supply, despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

Complaints of the persisting water shortage continued to pour in newspaper offices from parts of Orangi, North Karachi, Surjani, Shershah and SITE.

Meanwhile, the localities which went without water on Tuesday under the weekly water-holiday system include Gizri, Delhi Colony, Punjab Colony, Clifton, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Bhutta Village, the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre, the National Institute of Child Health, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and the Naval Dockyard.

CLOSURE: The localities where water supply will be suspended on Wednesday are: Garden East, Garden West, Soldier Bazaar, Shikarpur Colony, Saddar, Old City Area and Cosmopolitan Society.
