HYDERABAD, March 11: Sindh Ombudsman Justice (retd) Hazikul Khairi has said that his order for raids at police stations by a team of his office to check cases of illegal detention is still in operation.

Speaking at an open Kutchehry at the Circuit House here on Tuesday, he said he had issued another order to this effect after the previous one was challenged by Provincial Police Officer Syed Kamal Shah.

The provincial ombudsman said his previous order was challenged by the PPO before the Sindh governor, who stayed its operation and added that he had issued another order by exercising his powers to check illegal detentions at police stations.

To a question about ever increasing fees of private schools, Justice Khairi said in the newly-promulgated ordinance governing private schools, clauses regarding control of tuition fees had been deleted whereas in the previous ordinance, a particular clause dealt with the issue.

About impact of the “Save Hyderabad” seminar organised by the ombudsman, he sarcastically said the city had further been ruined after the seminar.

Most of the people, who attended the open kutchehry, complained about shelving of housing schemes, defective system of sewerage and water supply, broken roads and street lights in Hyderabad city.

The provincial ombudsman asked District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman to exercise his powers as the Hyderabad Development Authority chief to get the problems resolved.

The Nazim pointed out several administrative difficulties pertaining to the HDA.
