Remembering Kaleem Omar

Published June 30, 2009

I was immensely saddened to learn of the passing away of Kaleem Omar. He was a gentleman to the core and a storehouse of information.

He was a formidable personality, with his booming baritone and precise comments. Notwithstanding his gruff exterior and studied nonchalance, he was quick to appreciate others.

In his trademark shalwar kameez and waistcoat, KO was a familiar sight, striding through office corridors or ensconsced in his corner cubicle.

His work area was piled high with newspapers, and it was interesting to note that even his car was packed with newsprint.

It was obvious that KO loved his profession, and his love for the written word and English literature made him stand out amongst his contemporaries.

Kaleem Omar was a truly unforgettable person who enriched the world of journalism.
