KARACHI, Oct 10: The Pakistan Peace Coalition has expressed concern over the US and Britain-led attacks on Afghanistan amid calls from all quarters to refrain from this violent action.

Recalling that peace activists around the world, including the US itself, have protested against any military retaliation of the events of Sept 11, the US and Britain have ignored these pleas for sanity and have put the lives of millions of people in the region at risk, the PPC added.

A statement signed by M.B. Naqvi and Karamat Ali said “It is important to stress the fact that the US and Britain have acted without seeking the full approval of the international community”.

They said as military response was not an acceptable solution to the current crisis, all operations be immediately halted and the UN be empowered to act impartially to bring all responsible for the events of Sept 11 to justice. “The Taliban must cooperate with the international community and maintain their pledge to justice as they have claimed. For this purpose a meaningful exchange is required which is based on dialogue”, the PPC added.

“The military strikes will cause further problems in the region. To avoid these possibly disastrous problems, the international community needs to reassure Afghans that their homes are not liable to be attacked and at the same time relief is required in great quantities to address the immediate needs of the refugees.
