ISLAMABAD, March 8: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) marked International Women’s Day by announcing distribution of sports equipment to new women centres being established for Afghan refugees in the NWFP.

According to a press release, the provision of equipment by the UNHCR office in Peshawar underlines the agency’s commitment to improve the lives of refugee women and girls by increasing their access to education and recreational activities.

In the first stage, equipment will be given to the women’s centre in Old Bagzai Camp of Kurram Agency.

Men are not allowed to enter the centre, which is reserved for women to discuss their problems.

International Women’s Day was celebrated on Saturday, however the actual distribution would be carried out after Muharram.
