HYDERABAD, March 8: The Sindh Local Government and Rural Development Academy (SLGRDA), Tando Jam, will be upgraded to meet requirements of the devolution plan and district government functionaries.

This was said by the Sindh minister for local government, kutchi abadis and special development, Mohammad Hussain Khan, during his visit to the academy on Saturday.

He said after the introduction of the district government system, importance of the academy had increased.

He said the government had provided Rs6.4 million for a new building to provide facilities of library, seminar hall and classrooms for trainees at the academy.

The minister said an advisory board, comprising academic and administrative experts, would be constituted to revamp the academy.

The director general of the academy, Abdul Ghani Bachani, told the minister the academy was providing pre-service and in-service training to council employees, members, Nazims, Naib Nazims and municipal staff.

Later, the minister inaugurated water supply schemes in Mir Nabi Bux town, Noorani Basti, and Nizamuddin Aulia Colony, Paretabad.

Speaking on the occasion, he said a special grant of Rs500 million had been allocated for water supply and sewerage schemes of Hyderabad.

He directed the Water and Sewrage Agency authorities to resolve problems of water supply and sewerage systems.
