LAHORE, March 7: Former Test captain and manager of Pakistan team Intikhab Alam held Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, players, team management and selection committee responsible for the debacle in the ongoing World Cup.

Talking to Dawn on Friday, Intikhab, who as coach guided Pakistan to winning World Cup in 1992 with Imran Khan as skipper, said that it was the time that at least some one should accept the responsibility for the worst-ever performance in the competition and quit..

Intikhab said that PCB chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia was equally responsible as he ruled the board with all powers and took all the decisions independently.

Intikhab expressed his astonishment that why the chairman had not tendered his resignation so far although he had opted to quit the office when Pakistan were bowled out for 53 and 59 in a Test against Australia at Sharjah.

He wondered that no one was accepting the responsibility and neither selection committee nor the captain decided to resign, only way honourable way to quit.

While replying to a question, the former skipper said that the poor performance might be the result of a tussle between Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis groups over captaincy.

But Intikhab agreed that despite the conflict over the captaincy, all the players should perform to their true potential which was not was amiss during the World Cup campaign.

“In the interest of of the country the players should have set aside the differences if any,” Intikhab said.

To a question, he said that a new look team should be prepared for the next World Cup in 2007.
