KARACHI, March 7: The ministerial committee constituted by the Sindh cabinet to probe into fake admissions in to Sindh Medical College met here on Friday with Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat in the chair.

The meeting decided to bring all the medical colleges of the province under inquiry after it was informed that 120 fake admissions had traced in the SMC alone.

Secretary Health Ashique Hussain Memon, who is also the secretary of the ministerial committee, told the meeting that 120 fake-admission cases had so far been detected with the help of the governor‘s inspection team.

The secretary added that out of those, admissions of 38 students had been cancelled declaring them disqualified, and the disqualification proceedings and legal action against others were under way,

Mr Memon informed that nine officials and employees of the SMC and the Dow Medical College had been suspended for their involvement in fake admissions, while the authority concerned was being approached to suspend a grade 20 officer also involved in the scam.

Dr Iqbal Ahmed Daudpota, Additional Secretary Health, Prof Akbar Haider Soomro, Principal SMC and others were present in the meeting.—PPI
