DADU, May 30 A fire broke out in a unit of Lakhra power house in Khanoth on Sunday, suspending supply of 30 megawatts of electricity to the national gird.

The staff of the power house brought the fire under control after two hours with the help of fire brigade. The power house is now producing only 12MW.

Established in 1995, the power house has a capacity of generating 150MW by using low-grade coal.

According to the resident engineer of the power house, Akhund Ghulam Rasool, burning coal accidentally fell on a 100-metre-long conveyer belt. A 15-metre portion of the belt was damaged in the accident.

Soon after the fire broke out, the output of the plant was reduced to 12MW, he said. The unit would again start generating 30MW by Monday evening.
