ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto said in a message received here on Thursday that the party was celebrating the 34th anniversary of its foundation this November in a grim socio-economic and political environment where the founding principles of the party still retained efficacy as a framework for emancipation of the people.

The party’s founding principles of “democracy is our politics” and “all power to the people” have been ingrained in the people’s consciousness forever, the former prime minister maintained.

Ms Bhutto asked the party workers to tell the demoralized, suffering majority to support the party for the realization of the dream of “a bright morning at the end of a long and dark night”.

“With the PPP and its valiant workers around, I assure the people of Pakistan that we will continue to strive for their rights and for the restoration of the constitution and democracy in the country,” she added.

“The party was established to enable the common people to help shape their own destiny. Our Mission is the great mission of emancipation, of honour and respect, of a society that is free of poverty and holds high the banner of human dignity for which the founder of the party, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto gave his life,” she said.

It was the PPP which resisted dictatorships and gave the country a unanimous constitution, nuclear capability and a democratic culture, Ms Bhutto claimed.

The party’s momentous achievements were made possible by the enormous sacrifices of its workers for which they deserved the gratitude of all patriotic people, she said while offering a salute on behalf of the party to all those workers for their dedication to the cause.— Reporter
