ISLAMABAD, March 3: Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat on Monday asked the capital police to bring an end to the ‘Thana’ culture and deal with the citizens in a manner that serves as an example for the entire police force.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Kohsar model police station. Retired bureaucrats, religious leaders, prominent citizens, artists and civil society representatives were also present on the occasion.

“A change in name or renovation of the police station buildings will not deliver until there is a change in attitude and the mindset that is imperative for replacing the old concept of Thana culture with improved services for people,” he said.

He said the model police station in the capital should mark the beginning of the police’s journey towards a new direction.

“Much will depend on how you deal with people, like the Diplomatic Protection Department, you have to pledge and serve the citizens in the best way. Your performance will be vital in inspiring the force in other parts of the country to serve the people in the same manner,” he said.

The minister assured the police of the government’s support in providing them with the latest equipment, despite financial constraints.—APP
