MANSEHRA, March 3: Another spell of torrential rains and snowfall, which began here on Feb 27, on the mountains continued with intervals for the fifth consecutive day on Monday.

Reportedly, four people of a family were killed and dozens of mud houses were collapsed in far flung hilly areas of Oghi tehsil and Kaghan valley in the heavy downpour. Victims included three women and a young boy.

The Kaghan valley road from Ganhool onwards has been closed for all kind of traffic. The torrential rains and heavy snowfall have made the Karakoram Highway vulnerable to landslides, blocking it at different points. The Frontier Works Organization was stated to be busy in clearing the road.

The life both in Kaghan valley and in Kohistan district has come to a standstill, with the means of communications damaged, and telephonic links and the power supply suspended. The areas may also face scarcity of commodities if the rains continue. The most affected areas of Kaghan valley where dozens of mud houses were collapsed are: Paras, Manoor, Kaghan, Bhonja, Loharbanda, Phagal and Mohandri.

Bataira UC Nazim Mohammad Amin, said a number of link roads were badly damaged.
