FAISALABAD, March 2: The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association has opposed the district government decision to impose another tax on the private educational institutions.
In a statement here on Sunday, association chairman Sadaqat Lodhi and secretary-general Tahir Saleem said that the owners and managements of the private schools had been facing financial problems.
They claimed: “at present, the private educational institutions have been paying income, property, social security, old age benefit, commercial, publicity and five other taxes.”
According to them, at a recent meeting the district government decided to impose a professional tax on the managements of private educational institutions. After the levy of the new tax most owners would have to close their institutions, they said.
They threatened that if the district government imposed the new tax, they would be left with no option but to hold protests.
They demanded that the governor and chief minister should direct all the District Nazims not to prepare any plan about imposition of new tax on the private educational institutions.

CIVIL DEFENCE: District Nazim Zahid Nazir has said that special first aid training programme for the employees of health centres, dispensaries and hospitals would be organized.
He was speaking at a seminar held in connection with the World Civil Defence Day on Sunday.
The Nazim expressed his dissatisfaction over the standard of the civil defence volunteers’ training. He urged the civil defence department to streamline and strengthen the civil defence organization in accordance with the modern techniques. The district government will extend all out cooperation in this regard, he said.
SP Traffic Zahid Husain Sherazi said that the civil defence volunteers had always performed their duties efficiently at the time of any emergency, accident, disaster or calamity.
ROBBERY: The owner of an industrial unit was looted in Nishatabad here on Saturday night.
Masked robbers intercepted the motorcycle of Mushtaq Ahmad, snatched Rs1.3 million, wrist watch and a cellular phone from him, tied up him with a rope and escaped.
