MUZAFFARABAD, Jan 16 Two army personnel were injured after a teenaged suicide bomber attacked after their vehicle in the southern Poonch district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
This is the fifth attack in the region since June last year.
The attack took place near Dothan village, 16km from Rawalakot, on the way to Hajira town, the divisional commissioner of Poonch, Mohammad Khurshid Khan, told Dawn.
“The bomber hit the vehicle's left side as it slowed down while negotiating a bumpy portion of the road, seriously injuring the driver and a soldier accompanying him,” he said.
Remains of the bomber were collected by the police.
Earlier, the police and army stated that two soldiers were killed and four wounded, but they revised the information shortly afterwards.
Mr Khan said that the wounded personnel were brought to Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan Hospital in Rawalakot, but they were later shifted to Rawalpindi.
“They are out of danger now,” he said.
The first suicide attack in Azad Kashmir was carried out in June last year in which two soldiers were killed.
On Nov 21, three suicide bombers blew themselves up on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad after police and residents gave them a long chase, averting any casualties.
On Dec 27, another teenaged bomber blew himself up outside Muzaffarabad's central Imambargah, killing eight and wounding over 60 people.
On Jan 6, four soldiers were killed and several others wounded in Tarakhal (district Poonch) after an army school was attacked by a suicide bomber.
