Rashid hit on head by Zaheer

CENTURION, March 1: Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashid Latif was unable to his take his place behind the stumps during India’s innings after being struck on the head by Indian paceman Zaheer Khan while batting on Saturday.

Rashid was rushed to the hospital as soon as Pakistan’s innings ended and the X-ray showed no fracture but bruising and laceration.

The 35-year-old felt dizzy and was advised complete rest by doctors.

Rashid lay on the pitch for a while but stood up and continued his batting to score rapid unbeaten 29 off 25 balls.

Taufiq Umar was asked to don the wicket-keeping gloves for the entire India’s innings.

It is expected that Rashid will be fit to face Zimbabwe in the final Group ‘A’ fixture in Bulawayo on Tuesday 4.

A victory for Pakistan in that match and an expected Australian triumph over England on Sunday could still earn Waqar Younis’s team a place in Super Six on a better run rate.
