Tribesmen block road

SUKKUR March 1: A large number of people blocked the Indus Highway near Kandhkot Thursday morning following an armed attack on a police party and Malik tribesmen in which six persons were injured.

Dur Mohammad and Dodo Malik registered an FIR against Nasirani tribesmen for committing a theft in their house near Ghauspur and when a police party went to the village of the Nasiranis to arrest the nominated accused, they were attacked by Nasirani tribesmen, injuring ASI Iqbal Awan, three other policemen Zahid Dahani, Manthar Bhayo and Ghaus Buksh, Dur Mohammad and Dodo Malik.

Later, Malik tribesmen blocked the Indus Highway and raised slogans against the police.

The protesters dispersed after they were baton-charged by the police.

INJURED: Ten passengers were injured when bandits opened fire on a Karachi-bound bus near Ghauspur here on Wednesday night.

Seven of the injured were identified as Arbab Pathan, Waheedullh, Amanullah, Shawakram, Taj Ali, Rahmat Pathan and Naseema.

The injured were taken to the Kandhkot Taluka Hospital from where they were shifted to Karachi and Larkana hospitals.

KILLED: One person was killed and five others were injured in a road accident on the National Highway near Rohri on Thursday.

Ghulam Server Sangi was killed and Shuttal, Mirza, Gabol, Pooja and an identified person were injured when a wagon overturned after it was hit by a trailer.

The injured were taken to the Sukkur Civil Hospital.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: A meeting was held at the DCO office here on Thursday to review arrangements made for the anti-polio campaign, starting on March 4.

The EDO, health, Dr Mohammad Ashfaq Piracha, informed the meeting a walk against polio would be held on March 1.

He said 241,602 children would be vaccinated during the three-day anti-polio campaign and added 554 mobile teams had been formed.
