SUKKUR Feb 27: A Parco oil pipeline, which was closed for quite some time, was blown up in Khanpur, Shikarpur district on Wednesday night when unidentified people fired a rocket at it.

Thousands of litres of oil spilled out from the pipeline and caught fire.

Bomb disposal department’s in charge Malik Tahir told Dawn that the rocket was fired from about 180 yards away and its pieces were recovered from the site.

Police said the fire was brought under control after three hours.

Parco officials said the line had been closed a year ago, but it still contained about 20,000 to 25,000 litres of oil.

They said that the damage would have been greater if the line had been operational.

The police have registered a case but no arrests have been reported till filing of this report.
