KARACHI, Feb 27: A reckless car driver was sentenced on Thursday to two terms, totalling seven years, for killing a woman and injuring two others in a traffic accident.

The district and sessions judge, South, Aslam Shaikh, also ordered convict Mohammed Atif to pay Rs275,000 as Diyat to the family of the deceased and Rs100,000 each to the injured, both women.

The reckless driver was ordered to serve a five-year term for killing Fauzia and a two-year term for injuring Zaibun Nisa and Marium.

The three women were on their way when Atif hit their car in Gizri two years ago.

CASE AGAINST LAHORI: An anti-terrorism court put off the hearing of a sectarian killing case against chief of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and two others as one of the accused failed to engage a lawyer for his defence.

Judge Khan Pervaiz Chang of the ATC-4, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison, fixed March 4 for the next hearing and ordered accused Mohammed Azam to engage a defence counsel.

Meanwhile, Behram Khan appeared before the court and submitted his power of attorney for the defence of Akram Lahori and Ataullah.

The chief of the banned outfit, Akram Lahori, and the two co-accused are being prosecuted for killing Agha Abbas, owner of a juice centre, on May 25 last year at Nazimabad No. 1, within the limits of Rizvia Society police.

RANSOM CASE: An 11-year-old victim of kidnapping for ransom identified on Thursday the four accused, including a woman, before an anti-terrorism court.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Saturday for the next hearing after the deposition of Saeed Ahmed, who was allegedly kidnapped on October 28 last year for a Rs10-million ransom by Sohail Ahmed alias Sohail Commando, Masoom Bano alias Huma Jafferi, Nauman Iqbal and Abdul Adeel.

The victim’s family reported the matter to police and the CPLC.

On October 30, the kidnappers released their 11-year-old victim along with Nauman.

The police arrested Nauman following the statement of the victim boy and then arrested Sohail Commando, Masoom Bano and Abdul Adeel on the lead given by Nauman.
