BAHAWALPUR, Feb 26: Psychopath Abdul Razzaq, the alleged rapist and killer of eight aged women, will be tried in the Anti-Terrorism Court.

Dawn learnt on Wednesday that police were completing the legal formalities and his challan was expected to be submitted to the ATC, Bahawalpur, during next month. A special police team headed by Ahmedpur East DSP Mahmood Ahmed is interrogating the accused, who is on judicial remand with the Ahmedpur city police. The accused has identified three ‘mazars’ in Multan, Lodhran and Makhdoom Rashid where he had raped three aged women, but he did not murder them.

Entry banned: The entry of 21 ulema has been banned in the Bahawalpur district with immediate effect in the wake of forthcoming Muharram.

Among them, 12 ulema belong to Deobandi sect while the remaining to fiqah Jafaria.

Those banned are: Maulana Ali Sher Hyderabadi (Hyderabad), Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianavi, Maulana Masoodur Rehman (Lahore), Maulana Khadim Hussain (Jahania), Maulana Mufti Yahya Abbas (Jatoi-Muzzafargarh), Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Jhangvi (Jhang), Maulana Abdul Karim Nadeem (Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan), Maulana Abdul Ghani Haqqani (Rahim Yar Khan), Maulana Muhammad Nawaz Baloch (Kahror Pucca), Maulana Izharul Haq (Jhang), Maulana Abdul Sattar Taunsavi (Muzaffargarh), Maulana Ataur Rehman Farooqi (Samundri).

Maulana Syed Sibtain Raza Naqvi, Syed Ibrar Hussain Kazmi, Syed Munawar Abbas Alvi, Maulana Ghulam Raza Naqvi, (Lahore) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Naqvi (Multan), Maulana Ghulam Abbas Najfi, Maulana Safdar Hussain (Jhang), Allama Tawakkal Hussain (Faisalabad) and Maulana Taj Din Hyderi (Gujranwala).

BIKES SNATCHED: Armed robbers snatched three motorcycles and household articles including jewellery worth thousands of rupees in different areas of the district.

Motorcycles of Muhammad Umar, Abdul Jabbar and Ahmed Bakhsh were snatched by masked armed men.

Four armed men entered the house of Ahmed Bukhsh and held the family members hostage at Mauza Jhallanwali in the limits of Nowshehar Jadid police station. The intruders locked them in a room after tying them with ropes and took away jewellery and other valuables. Police have registered cases with no arrest.
