NAWABSHAH, Feb 26: A pregnant woman, Fehmida Jutt, died due to the alleged carelessness of a lady doctor in the gynaecology ward of the Peoples Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.

Fehmida Jutt, a resident of the Santa Singh village, Nawabshah, was admitted to the gynaecology ward of the hospital on Tuesday night. She was having labour pains.

Dr Rubina Pathan administered four injections to the patient through a cannula for providing her relief. However, after 15 minutes she started to have pains again.

The staff on duty tried to call Dr Rubina but she could not be reached. After some time the patient died.

The woman’s relatives became infuriated and started beating the staff.

The medical superintendent, Peoples Medical College Hospital, Dr Illahi Bux Soomro, and Dr Rubina Pathan arrived at the hospital along with the police. The woman’s angry relatives tried to attack both but the police intervened in time.

Her relatives started holding a sit-in outside the gynaecology ward. They demanded the immediate removal of Dr Soomro and Dr Rubina.

When this correspondent contacted the medical superintendent, Peoples Medical College Hospital, Dr Soomro, he said that a committee was being formed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter.

He assured that if Dr Rubina was found guilty, legal action would be taken against her.
