KARACHI, Feb 26: Criticizing the involvement of MPAs and provincial ministers in the affairs of the city government, city Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said this will only make uplift projects suffer.

He was speaking at a function organized by Liaquatabad Town to honour its officers and staff whose work went into the cleanliness drive launched by Liaquatabad Town during Eid days.

The Nazim claimed the city had seen more development during the 16 months of the city government than what it had seen in the past 16 years.

He said the city government was working to improve the transport sector which would get on the right track with the revival of the Karachi Circular Railway and introduction of the monorail and other rail-based transit systems.

He said steps were being taken to establish a desalination plant in Karachi to make potable water out of seawater.

He said solid waste management was a serious problem in the city, and for disposal of solid waste on modern lines negotiations with international firms were on.

He said it would not only help the city government save about Rs800 million annually spent on solid waste management but would also earn some amount for it.

“However, the unjustified involvement of provincial ministers in the affairs of the city government would only disturb future development plans,” the Nazim added.

FRENCH COUNSEL: The Nazim Karachi has said that Karachi, being the only harbour for Afghanistan and the Central Asian States and a gateway to Europe, Middle and Far East, is a city highly conducive for investment, and therefore there is no reason why foreign investors should not be interested in promotion of business activities here.

He was talking to Holbort Corlas, commercial counsel for the French Embassy, who met him here on Tuesday.—PPI\APP
