KARACHI, Feb 23: A large number of people, most of them women and children, visited the ‘Nature Carnival’ held at the PAF Museum here on Sunday.

More than 70 stalls were set up by students and others at the day-long education-cum-fun activity organized jointly by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the ICI.

Young students had prepared three-dimensional (3D) models depicting themes e.g. ecosystem, solid waste management, green turtles and their habitat, juniper forests, freshwater management, life in villages, cities, etc.

A large number of visiting schoolchildren and other people were given briefings about the 3D models.

Some of the young students were wearing animal camouflage to highlight the significance of human affection with wildlife.

The stall holders had plenty of information about the models they had put on display. They were keenly transferring this information to those taking interest in the models. At the stall of juniper forest, the students were narrating visitors what juniper forests actually meant. They were telling the visitors that juniper forests are living fossils that are often found in Ziarat town of Balochistan and northern areas of the country. At another stall, visitors were being provided knowledge about green turtle and its habitat.

To add fun to the event, food and game stalls were set up in a considerable number. A palmist had also made his way into the carnival and attracted a lot of customers.

The WWF itself had reserved space where its officials and wildlife activists entertained people ‘hunting’ animals models with tennis balls.

Other features of the carnival included puppet show, music show, fancy dress show and a quiz show on environment besides exhibition of aircraft already placed at the museum.

The Commander of Corps-5 Lt-Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi inaugurated the carnival and visited different stalls.

Later, Ali Habib and Dr Ejaz of the WWF and Liaquat Siddique of the ICI delivered speeches on the occasion. They said that such carnivals were organized to create awareness on environment, wildlife and nature conservation.

The WWF has also scheduled such carnivals in Islamabad and Lahore in March and April respectively.
