ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that there will be no horse trading during Senate elections because my government does not believe in pressure tactics and manoeuvring in politics.

During an interview with a private TV channel, the prime minister dwelt upon international and national issues in length.

Talking about Iraq issue, Mr Jamali said, Pakistan being a member of the United Nations has to support any decision taken by the Security Council, on Iraq under resolution 1441.

Being a member of UN, it is imperative upon Pakistan to stand by a secision of UNSC under resolution 1441, Mr Jamali said.

He said the Pakistani nation would not favour a military action against Iraq.

He said Pakistan is already pursuing a clear stand. “Being a Muslim country no one in Pakistan would favour any loss to any of the Muslim countries. We would not like that they (Iraqis) may suffer any difficulty or face problems”.

The people in Pakistan, he said, want the danger of war averted. The prime minister said the Iraqi leadership would be equally responsible if situation turns untoward.

Replying to a question he said Parliament’s session would start soon and the issue of Iraq will be discussed there.

Mr Jamali expressed hope that protest demos called by the MMA on March 2 in Karachi and March 9 in Rawalpindi would be peaceful.

He said it is not the issue of Muslim and non-Muslim, rather the demonstrations are purely on humanitarian basis to avert the danger of possible war.

Every one has the right to give vent to their sentiments, the prime minister said and added it should be done while abiding by the norms of a civilized society.—APP
