Two die as houses collapse

BAJAUR, Feb 20: Two more people were killed and four others injured in house-collapse incidents here on Wednesday night as torrential rains and snowfall continued for the sixth consecutive day in the Bajaur tribal agency.

In Nakhtar village in the Mamond subdivision, the roof of a room in the house of one Abdul Qadir collapsed, killing his eight-year-old grandson Zahir Khan. The victim’s mother Zuhra Bibi and her two other children were seriously injured in the incident.  The  injured have been shifted to  the  Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khaar.

In the Barang area on Wednesday night, Hukam Khan was killed and another person wounded when the roof of his house caved in.

Reports reaching here from the far-flung mountainous areas suggest that dozens of mud houses had collapsed due to the unabated rains and snowfall for the last few days.

The rains have badly disrupted the public life and the roads have been closed due to landsliding at several places in the tribal agency.

Political Agent Pirzada Khan told the newsmen that the local administration had taken all measures to meet the emergency situation and provide relief to the affected people.
