MANSEHRA, Feb 18: Eleven people were killed and two others injured on Monday night when a Datsun pick-up they were travelling in plunged off a cliff in the Alai Tehsil of Batagram district on Monday night.

The driver and 10 others were killed instantly when the vehicle skidded off the road and landed in a river near Nattai on its way to Tandol from Banna.

A police spokesman said only six bodies could be recovered. There names are: Saifoor Khan (driver), Sircut Khan, Manai Khan, Abdul Qavi, Saranjam, and Abdul Wahid.

The two injured had managed to jump from the vehicle before the accident.

It is not known what caused the accident, but heavy snowfall could be a reason. It was also hampering rescue work on the Batagram-Alai Road.

Torrential rains and snow has brought the Hazara region to a complete standstill. Landslides have buried the Karakoram Highway at several points.

Many people travelling between Rawalpindi and the Northern Areas were stranded in Rawalpindi, Gilgit, Dassu and Besham.
