KARACHI: Korangi road submerged

Published February 19, 2003

KARACHI, Feb 18: The Monday’s torrential rains have caused extensive damage to main Korangi Road which has been closed to traffic after rainwater inundated the road.

A huge crater has been developed on the road between Qayyumabad Chowrangi and Korangi Crossing, rendering the road inaccessible to motorists.

The city government has officially closed the road for repairs. People proceeding to and from Korangi have been advised to use the alternative routes of Quaidabad and Korangi Industrial Area.

The rainwater also washed away a culvert of Korangi’s 3000- Road, linking Korangi Industrial Area.

As rains inundated the Korangi road, traffic proceeding to and from Korangi, Landhi and Bin Qasim Towns, came to a halt and heavy traffic jams have started occurring at Qayyumabad Crossing, Defence More, Mehmoodabad and KIA.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan visited the affected area with DIG Traffic Saud Mirza and EDO Works and Services, and asked the officials to start work on the damaged portion of the road.
