CHANDPUR (Bangladesh), Feb 14: A holiday cruise ended in disaster when two passengers were killed and nine others were missing after a small ferry sank in southern Bangladesh, officials said on Friday.
“It was a VIP ferry carrying 29 people and partially sank on Thursday evening near Matlab village after being caught in stormy winds,” said a river official in the port town of Chandpur, which is eight kilometres from Matlab.
Industrialist S.F. Siddiqui, was one of those killed in the accident.
He had hired the MV Amith Express from a private company for a fun cruise on the Meghna river during the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.—AFP
