PESHAWAR, Feb 9: Bio-Technology Centre of Peshawar University even after two years of its inauguration lacks proper classrooms and a laboratory for students.
Thus the centre cannot display essential equipment for its around 130 students, due to the shortage of space. Recently the administration had converted an abandoned bathroom into a classroom to organise classes for the students of M.Phil and degree-level.
Centre Director Dr Farukh Hussain told Dawn: “We haven’t enough room to display equipment and chemicals.”
He said that around 40 microscopes had been purchased for the centre, but they still remained packed.
The defunct University Grants Commission (UGC) over 10 years ago had decided to introduce the bio-technology course in the University of Peshawar, but classes for this new discipline could not start due to some unknown reasons.
About two years back the university administration introduced M.Phil and some degree courses on the campus and temporarily allocated two rooms for the centre in Biology Department to conduct theory and practical classes for the students.
