SUKKUR, Feb 7: Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussein Qureshi has termed the present government a puppet regime and predicted its downfall, saying that the time for the PPP to step into power is near.

He was addressing a group of his followers in Sarhad in Ghotki district on Thursday evening.

Mr Qureshi said that the country was passing through a critical phase in its history, adding that grave dangers threatened its integrity and the PPP was the only party, which was in a position to defend it.

Referring to the Patriots faction, he said that it had been created by the military rulers for creating disunity in the PPP ranks, adding that they (the Patriots) would soon meet their fate. Terming the Patriots party’s traitors, he said that they would, very soon, vanish from the political scene.

Mr Qureshi said that the Jamali government was weak and it had no roots in the masses.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the PPP, along with other political parties, was trying to work out a political strategy to take the country out of chaos.

Legal Framework Order, he said, had no legal value as only the Parliament was empowered to amend or alter the Constitution.

He said that the president should abandon his uniform if he sought to be elected for presidentship.
