Another day without water, power

Published February 6, 2003

LAHORE, Feb 5: The Lahorites had another day without power and water with kiteflyers taking to their roofs with metal wire.

The city suffered 829 minor trippings and 19 major breakdowns on Wednesday as the Lahorites celebrated a mini-basant. Out of 19 major breakdowns, 14 were caused by metal wire. There had been over three-hour breakdowns in two areas — Lakhodar and Misri Shah.

In the run up to basant, the worst suffers seem to be the common man and the Lesco. With the absence of electricity, the Lahorites had to do without water.

Meanwhile, the Lesco on Wednesday covered the Islamia Park grid station with a net to save it from kites crashing into it and causing disruptions. For the purpose, the feeder was kept shut down for more than 10 hours.

The Lesco had already covered Mochi Gate, Bhugewal, Shalamar and Riwaz Garden grid stations with nets, and plans to cover the rest of the city stations with the same.
