Published February 6, 2003

KARACHI, Feb 5: Complete control of diabetes and treatment of macula are now possible through laser technology.

This was stated by medical experts at a two-day conference on eyes problems organized by the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan at a local hotel, a press release said Wednesday.

The experts said that diabetes severely damaged the macula part of the eyes. “Eyesight of the patient becomes week. Twenty out of 50 sugar patients are affected by macula problem.” They said people over 60 years of age are more prone to the disease.

The conference, having five sessions, was attended by more than 40 experts and 500 doctors.—APP
