No-trust clause for N. Areas demanded

Published February 2, 2003

GILGIT, Feb 1: Local leadership of the PML-Q have asked Northern Areas Chief Executive Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao for the insertion of a no-confidence motion clause in the Legal Framework Order (LFO) for the region.

Northern Areas PML-Q President Abdul Wahid told newsmen on Friday that there was no clause to table a no-trust motion against the deputy

chief executive of the region, which, he said, deprived the opposition parties of their democratic right.

Mr Wahid, flanked by Asadullah Khan advocate and Shehzad Talat, claimed that they had gained majority in the Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC), but, having no option, they were handicapped to topple the incumbent advisory council and the deputy chief executive.

They said that the Northern Areas Legislative Council had lost its effectiveness and legitimacy.

The PML-Q leader claimed that the issue had already been taken up with Mr Sherpao, who had held out an assurance for its redressal.
