ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: Two murder convicts were awarded death penalty and life imprisonment here on Friday.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Azhar Mehmood, during a dacoity in I-10/4 in 1997, had killed Riazul Haq and injured his sister Rizwana Tabassum.

The additional district and sessions judge, Chaudhary Muhammad Yunas, after hearing the case, found them guilty and awarded death sentence to Shahbaz Ahmed and life-term to Azhar Mehmood.

The court imposed a collective fine of Rs120,000 and in case they fail to pay the amount, they would have to undergo nine more months of imprisonment each.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Qazi Waqar Hussain, has charge sheeted eight accused and asked the prosecution to provide the witnesses on February 10, the next date of hearing.

Mohammad Ghalib, Talib Hussain, Arshad Mehmood, Azhar Mehmood, Sajjad Hussain, Hasir Mehmood, Muhammad Hanif and Wahid Ahmed, had allegedly killed Shaukat Hussain and Liaqat Hussain in the jurisdiction of secretariat police station.
