PESHAWAR, Jan 31: The members of Peshawar District Bar Association have strongly opposed any operation against Baloch tribes on the Sui gas issue.

At a hurriedly-called meeting, which was presided over by Sher Afgan Khattak, the bar association flayed the government’s stand on the Sui gas issue with the Baloch tribes.

They urged the government to give the Balochs their rights — gas royalty and its profit.

They appreciated the resignation of Governor Balochistan Amir-ul-Mulk Mangel in reaction to the government’s attitude towards the rights of his Baloch tribes on gas royalty. They lauded the governor’s stand on his people’s rights.

The meeting demanded of the government to start developmental projects in Balochistan. They also urged the government to give royalty on electricity and tobacco to the NWFP.

The meeting observed that any action against Balochs would bring adverse results. Such national matters should be solved through talks rather than military operation, it noted.
