Solid reply by PIA

RAWALPINDI, Jan 29: PIA gave a solid response to Wapda’s first innings total of 307 and were a comfortable 141 for two at the close of second day’s play in their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy quarterfinal at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Wapda who had resumed at the overnight score of 219 for five were helped to the 300 plus mark by Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan (39), Waqas Ahmed (29) and skipper Zahid Umar (21) after opener Atiq-ur- Rehman and Hasan Adnan had hit half centuries on Tuesday.

Asif Mujtaba with four for 74 was the main wicket-taker for PIA while paceman Mohammad Zahid and off-spinner Shoaib Malik picked up two each.

Fast bowler Fazle Akbar did not bowl after limping off the field with a thigh strain on Tuesday morning. PIA’s team manager Rashid Khan said he would be unable to bowl in the second innings.

PIA were given a steady start by their openers Kamran Sajid and Ghulam Ali both of whom made 22 each in a 51-run partnership.

After both openers were in quick successions, Yasir Hameed (49) and Asif Mujtaba (33) came together in the unbroken 82-run partnership.
