ISLAMABAD: After receiving a green signal from the Higher Education Commission, the Election Commission on Friday declared the degrees of nine former parliamentarians as genuine. 

The former lawmakers included Dewan Ashiq Hussain‚ Gul Muhammad‚ Lt colonel (R) Shujat Hussain‚ Shafiq Gujjar‚ Muhammad Umer Gorgage‚ Ameer Ali Jamote‚ Waseem Afzal Gondal‚ Ghulam Rasool Sial and Dr Israr Hussain.

Election Commission of Pakistan has also summoned three former parliamentarians‚ Seemal Kamran‚ Nawabzada Mohammad Akbar and Tariq Magsi on Saturday in connection to the fake uncertified degrees.

The commission has also reserved its verdict on the degrees of twelve former lawmakers that it had summoned on Friday.

Meanwhile, the ECP has so far been received 23,555 nomination papers‚ of which 18,187 have been forwarded after scrutiny.
