Growers hold demo

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Jan 29: A large number of growers took out a protest procession here on Wednesday against the irrigation department.

The procession started from the Jatoi House, Kandiaro, and terminated at the local National Bank branch.

The protesters were led by Mohabbat Dero union council Nazim Abdul Ghaffar Dahraj and Khan Wahan union council Nazim Maqsood Ahmad Khushik.

They said the irrigation department had violated water rules of 1932, under which the Naulakhi Wah, fed by the Rohri Canal, was only to supply water to Kandiaro taluka.

They said during the Ghaus Ali Shah government, two more minors — Siyal Minor and Mirwah Minor — were taken from the Naulakhi Wah to irrigate some areas of the Khairpur district.

They deplored two more minors were being given to Khairpur from the wah, which they said would create water shortage in Kandiaro taluka.

They demanded further diversion of water from Naulakhi Wah should be stopped.
