CHITRAL, Jan 27: Seven people were buried alive in an avalanche near the Lowari top on Sunday evening. The victims were travelling in a jeep

(SL-8116) from Chitral to Peshawar through the Lowari Pass, some 10,230 feet above the sea level.

At the Lowari top, they found the road closed.

They got off the vehicle and were clearing the snow when the avalanche killed them, said a survivor.

Five of them were identified as Mumtaz Zareen, Rehmat Wali, Mohammad Din, driver Taoos Khan and helper Mohammad Wali.

The personnel of the Chitral Scouts rushed to the spot from its Ziarat post and started rescue operation. They recovered five bodies.

Search for the missing persons continues.
