Motorway woes

Published March 23, 2013

I RECENTLY travelled on GT Road and the Motorway (M2 and M3) on my way from Islamabad to Multan and back. Travelling on GT Road has never been a good experience, and that is understandable since you travel through small towns and cities.

The motorway (M2) experience has always been good and I have been impressed by the way the Motorway police conduct themselves.

However, my recent travelling experience was an eye-opener. The performance of the Motorway police has deteriorated. Since I was travelling in the evening, I saw many vehicles without functioning tail lights, headlights not working correctly, as well as people frequently driving on full beam and with HIDs.

Another dangerous aspects was that people were overtaking vehicles from the left side, and failing to turn indicators on.

Overspeeding is rampant; I saw a lot of vehicles racing as if it was an F1 track.

I would advise the Motorway police to check all cars that enter the motorway to make sure they have functioning lights whether its day or night and harsh fines must be imposed since the only way people learn is when it hits their pocket.
