LAHORE, Jan 27: Robbers shot dead a watchman at Sahowari in Mughalpura on Monday. Badshah Khan told police that his uncle Naseer Khan was a locality watchman. He said he stopped four suspects early morning and tried to search them. On refusal, he said, his uncle tried to catch one of them but they opened fire on him and escaped. He sustained critical injuries and died on way to hospital.
The body was sent to the city mortuary for autopsy. A case was registered with no arrest.
Residents caught an alleged robber and broke his legs at Toospura in Manawan.
The police said four gunmen burst into the house of Muhammad Sadiq. Inmates raised an alarm and the residents surrounded the house. The robbers tried to escape but the residents caught one of them, later, identified as Habib. They gave him a good thrashing and broke his legs.
The injured robber was admitted to the Mayo Hospital where he was under treatment till late night.
HANGING: A housemaid was found hanged in the house of her master at Nargis Block in Allama Iqbal Town on Monday.
The police said the family members found Fauzia, 14, found hanging in the servant quarter. The body was removed to the city mortuary. Further investigation is under way.
POISONOUS LIQUOR: A youngster died and two fell unconscious allegedly after taking poisonous liquor in Harbanspura on Monday.
The police said Maqsood and his two friends — Shahid and Irfan — took liquor. They fell unconscious and were taken to the Shalamar Hospital.
Maqsood, 25, was pronounced dead on arrival and the other two men were stated to be in critical condition. The body was returned to family without autopsy.
