PESHAWAR, March 18: Awami National Party is forming committees at union council and district levels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to run the election campaign by conveying its message to voters at the grassroots levels.

“The committees will play crucial role in upcoming election as they are to be tasked with carrying out election campaigns in their respective areas. Their efforts will bring positive result in the polls,” ANP provincial president Senator Afrasiab Khattak told members of the party’s Peshawar district working committee during a meeting here on Monday.

The meeting, which was held with ANP Peshawar district president Arbab Najibullah Khan Khalil in the chair, discussed the election-related matters.

ANP provincial general secretary Arbab Tahir Khan, additional general secretary Tajuddin Khan, MPA Shagufta Malik and others were in also attendance, said a news release issued by Bacha Khan Markaz.

Mr Khattak recalled the sacrifices of 700 ANP workers and leaders and lauded the spirit with which the party had confronted terrorists to safeguard public life and property.

He said the party had executed matchless development projects in the province despite severe hardships.

The ANP leader said the province had got a new name after relentless struggle of the party and that the residents were very happy to have an identity.

He said the party had been battling the fight of country’s integrity and solidarity and stood against terrorism.

Mr Khattak said on the basis of the provincial government’s good performance during five years, the people would vote for ANP candidates in the elections to help the party claim majority in the provincial assembly.

He said gone were the days when political parties misguided the people in the garb of the enforcement of Islamic law and election symbol of book as the people had understood the motive of those wanting to reach Islamabad using the name of Islam.

“Unfortunately, they forgot their promises of implementing Islam when they came across luxuries of the government,” he said.

The ANP leader said the people had become more aware of the enforcement of Shariah and would reject them at ballot, while ANP would stand tall due to fulfillment of its manifesto during the five-year rule in the province.

He said people in tribal areas would vote for ANP ticket-holders in the next elections. He demanded the strictest security measures for elections there.

Mr Khattak asked the local and district ANP leaders to resolve their differences and stand united to help the party win elections and form the next provincial government, too.

Mr Khattak said his party would field candidates in all provincial and national assembly constituencies and vigorously campaign for their success.

He said ANP had been the staunch supporters of peace and democracy and that its efforts to oppose dictatorship and promote democracy would continue for the benefit of the people.

The ANP leader said the party’s services in education and health sectors were praiseworthy.
