KARACHI: The second round of talks scheduled for Monday between the Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement on the issue of caretaker chief minister in Sindh could not be held.

However, a PPP team led by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah held an informal meeting with Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at night, but it remained inconclusive because of the absence of MQM leaders who were in Mirpurkhas for a public meeting in connection with the party’s founding day.

The hour-long meeting could not finalise the name of the caretaker chief minister and decided to meet on Tuesday, informed sources told Dawn.

The PPP has suggested the names of Justices (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah, Hamid Ali Mirza and Zahid Quraban Alvi for the post. The MQM has proposed the names of Justices (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid, Dr Ghous Mohammad, Muneeb Ahmed Khan, Mahmood Alam Rizvi and Barrister Habib-ur-Rehman.

According to the sources, one of the names suggested by the PPP has been finalised which will be announced on Tuesday at a joint press conference to be addressed by the chief minister and Leader of Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Sardar Ahmad of the MQM after a meeting at the Governor’s House.

The sources said the chief minister had called a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday to take the ministers on board on the issue of caretaker chief minister and dissolution of the assembly.
